Hi Paul, Sorry for what happen to your exchange, that place was a lot of fun. I lost half a Bitcoin in your exchange, it's not much to most people, but was pretty much a lot to me. You know like any good company that goes under, I'll do .50cents on the dollar. After all it's just business!
If you want to hit me back for 250mBtc, here's my address.

[PSA] Fake Cryptsy Investment Scam going on Facebook...

There is a fake BigVern Account that is trying to get people to invest in Cryptsy by PM'ing on Facebook. It seemed very suspicious to me. So I contacted Cryptsy and they confirmed it is a scam. Here is the transcript...
Sunday 8:58pm
BigVern Vern:
Hello
We need the average users to hold, they are not doing that because we have so much of an exchange so the BTC is so spread out that it #1 is making our solid volume low , the real money is BTC. Not any other coin to the USD investors eyes, that's all they want to see. We are strictly watched by the better business bureau and in accordance with all United States laws, even if you are over seas you are still a user and operating within these laws here and you will be accommodated as such.
let me know if your interested to be a project investor at 8% a month
Tuesday 10:01pm
BigVern Vern:
We have just changed this to 10%.
We are closing the ledger in 12 hours.
I wanted to invite you to our project investors program on Cryptsy. We are getting temporary investors for the next four months starting today actually for a 10% interest of whatever they guarantee to hold on a ledger. With project investors inc by linking your Cryptsy account to us, this provides us with backing to show USD investors that we have a secure 'solid volume' investor base. As we are trying to start the USD exchange in the next 5 months. If for some reason we cant start it within 4 months you can always continue with the project investors until we do have enough USD investors to start the exchange. Let me know if interested, and please dont tell very many people about it as we are only inviting trusted users / companies / and businesses of bitcoin. The latest we can take you is in the next 12 hours that is when our ledger closes, so the sooner the better! Sorry for late notice.
Jason King: Sorry man. We are a non profit. Can't invest
BigVern Vern: ahh
well I didnt know that part
thanks much
Jason King: No problem. Good luck on funding the round. Cryptsy rocks.
BigVern Vern: Thanks!!
Didnt want to throw your own personal account on it? That is fine too, minimum 1 btc.
If so let me know, thanks again.
::::It was that part that made me extremely suspicious:::
BigVern Vern: Hey there just wanted to give you a 2nd chance at this, i'm at the table now at the meeting to get this launched did you want in on the project? Stephanie Murphy is a project investor you might know her. Just need username / amount for now to put you on pending list.
I then contacted Stephanie. She had indeed invested. But I told her the cadence of the speech sounded very not-Vern like.
I then contacted Cryptsy support. They said they are aware of this account and had asked for it to be taken down.
Hope they didn't get to many people.

[SFYL] After weeks of rejecting withdrawals, Cryptsy is claiming to have been hacked.

Hack announcement: https://archive.is/hxGqy
NOTICE: UNTIL WE ARE ABLE TO DETERMINE EXTENT OF ATTACK, ALL WITHDRAWALS AND MARKETS ARE PAUSED
Butters are claiming that they got an email to go to a site called "cryptsy-refund.com". https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1325850.0
BigVern then hops onto Twitter to claim that that's a phishing attempt, even though it happened within an hour of their announcement of their hack, leading many to speculate that the hacker also got Cryptsy's DB: https://twitter.com/cryptsy/status/687125569159467008
Cryptsy damage control is blaming SMS, or something. https://np.reddit.com/Bitcoin/comments/40qlmk/cryptsy_is_dying_now_you_cant_login_o0/cywbx1j
Goxing is in overdrive right now.
P.S. Oh, and lest we forget, BigVern and the entire Cryptsy office and all their property disappeared days before this happened. http://bitcoinist.net/cryptsy-has-moved-out-of-their-building-unannounced-nowhere-to-be-found/
Edit: Qntra also reports that BigVern is going through a divorce with his wife, and forwards a rumor that withdrawal issues are due to Cryptsy's funds being tied up in the divorce. https://archive.is/eFrVe

Of Wolves and Weasels - Day 736 - The (Unneccessary) Fall of Cryptsy

Hey all, GoodShibe here!
So, wow, some really interesting and, well, disturbing news about Cryptsy is in the wind.
When I say 'disturbing' by the way, I'm talking about the completely casual admission from Cryptsy themselves that 'oh, yeah, by the way, about a year and a half ago, we lost a crap-ton of your money and elected to not say anything'.
It's a wonderfully technical recounting of events.
Cold and clinical and utterly devoid of remorse.
Man, it's days like this that I really miss Vault of Satoshi.
Here's the hard thing: instinctively, I understand the thought process... can even empathize, to an extent. You're someone who's worked hard to build a business and a brand - to become a pillar of the Cryptosphere. Maybe you've even done everything right up until this point... and then some little piss-ant sneaks behind the curtain and tears everything down around you.
All of a sudden, you're the next Mount Gox.
Destined to go down in history as a ridiculed footnote of Crypto-coin lore.
Yeah, no wonder you "didn't want to cause a panic".
Because, as anyone knows in crypto -- and anyone who runs an exchange is going to be hyper-aware of this -- trust is the only currency that matters. And after Mt. Gox? Trust is a very fragile commodity.
What do you do when you've just had ~20,000 BTC stolen from your coffers?
The Ethical thing would be to explain everything there and then. Publicly build a plan of action, explain and share the process of the investigation. Share the known location of the coins -- hell, in moments, at the time, you probably could have rallied SEVERAL crypto-communities to your side; had some of the very best minds across the cryptosphere working to help you.
Because here's another simple truth: NO ONE wanted another Mt. Gox.
Trust would have been damaged, sure, but I suspect it could have been recovered had you, in time, identified what happened and shown everyone how sophisticated the attack actually was. That it wasn't necessarily you asleep at the wheel. If you had come forward and said "hey, we've got the reserves, we'll take this on the chin as a cost of being part of this grand experiment with you".
Because, yes, so much of all of this is one great, grand experiment and by showing humility and working to advance all of our knowledge of how to protect ourselves, maybe... maybe it wouldn't have been so bad. It would've stung, but you, with work, could've recovered.
If it had actually been about your customers, the people who'd put their trust in you.
But "maybe* is a big word when your legacy is on the line, your years of hard work. You're the victim here, right?
So... if you happen to look at your balance sheet and see that, yeah, you can just... make it go away, pretend that it never happened... why bother, right?
Why even risk it at all?
Except it means that for, who knows how long, you're riding on a very capricious edge.
Owner of an exchange for not just one but hundreds of extremely volatile cryptocurrencies.
Is that why you went from friendly, accessible 'Big Vern' who seemed like he was everywhere to the quiet, recluse that we've seen lately?
The problem with having ones ethics thrown into question is that all sorts of things, things that only existed as rumors and backroom talk end up taking on a whole new life. Was Cryptsy aware of the market manipulation that was going on? Was it... sanctioned? Maybe, in knowing which way something was going to move... well, would that help to fill a 20,000 BTC hole? I'm not saying that anything actually happened, but one certainly begins to wonder what steps one might take.
Because no one 'just accepts' a 20,000 BTC loss without trying to find a way to get it back.
The most frustrating thing about all of this is this:
The fact that Cryptsy lasted this long despite a supposed "run on the bank", despite the many supposed "smear" campaigns against you is a testament to how much the various communities wanted you to exist.
There are so many other, better ways this could have played out.
We need a trusted place to do business, now more than ever.
Instead -- and the Dogecoin Community has some scarily first-hand knowledge of this with the fall of Moolah -- we get to watch as the wheels so very slowly start to fall off. As, one by one, the complaints begin to bubble up from the cracks until the whole thing is torn apart from fear and frustration and anger.
So... now you've got a lawsuit against you. A class action lawsuit. 84,000,000 DOGE is, yeah, people may laugh at our funny, silly little DOGE, but that's no amount of chump change.
Now people are pissed.
Because no one wanted another Mt. Gox.
Yet, when given the option, when faced with the choice... that's exactly the path you chose to walk.
It's 8:18AM EST and our Global Hashrate is holding at ~1260 Gigahashes per Second and our Difficulty is up from ~15082 to ~16757.
As always, I appreciate your support!

The corporate view on S2X - I think it's not what you think

Corps want to make money, don't care about ideology, visions or changing the world. Money is the only driver of (most) Corps. And if you lose money by getting your ass sued for losing customers' money, you don't make money.
Put it differently, to make money companies must
  1. Bring the dough in
  2. Not lose that dough
What does that mean for S2X? Point 1. means they are completely indifferent to legacy vs B2X vs bigblockcoin, so long as it brings them the dough in. But point 2. is what will determine the outcome of the game here, imo, in favour of bitcoin as we know it.
Why? A contentious fork is risky from a user's funds perspective. Bitcoin custodians (exchanges, wallets, ...) MUST protect the customers' funds, it's their fiduciary duty. If you think
"It's open source software, who are you gonna sue?!?!"
you should think again. From Mt Gox (CEO facing jail time) to Cryptsy (Big Vern hiding his ass in Asia to avoid jail time) and others are facing real legal consequences for losing/stealing customers' funds. Now think about the board of directors of, say, Coinbase. They don't give a flying f%&k about big blocks vs small blocks vs your granny's vision of the blockchain. All they want is $$$, and are personally liable for ensuring customers don't lose funds. And, like everyone with a personal liability, they are risk averse. It's human nature.
Is it 100% safe to support go S2X? I think only the most delusional big blockers/"Satoshi's visionists" will say yes. Anybody with a half an ounce of functioning brain matter will acknowledge that without consensus, S2X is a risky move, regardless of which side of the debate you are on. This is not an attack on Jeff Garzik, let it be clear. There's more involved. Who? For instance, CB's own devs! For the fork to be smooth, not only must the fundamental software be flawless, but also the devs tinkering around it must be pretty damn competent. And yes, they most likely are, but to ignore that this is just another element that adds to the uncertainty from a corporate perspective is, again, delusional.
Which brings us to the conclusion: My take here is that Co's will stick with core not because they believe in the same ideas behind core, or because they hate big blocks or whatever other reason you may find. They will stick with core simply because they are risk averse. Also known as their ass will be on fire if anything goes wrong.

Vertcoin is the philosopher's stone of crypto, and those who are ditching it for pre-mined hype coins will soon be back (albeit with a less favorable conversion rate). ADVERSITY=OPPORTUNITY.

You know what's not productive?
"Pandacoin is gonna eat us up"
"Let's go whale hunting, we have to figure out who this big buyer is"
"When Maxcoin crashes, that's our ticket right there"
"The tip bot is down!!!!!!"
This is all reactive silliness. We need to be proactive. For one thing, identifying a big buyer - what does that do for the community? Oooh, it's Big Vern, oooh maybe it's the Winklevoss twins... what is this, the editorial office at some tabloid?
We should be grateful whales are buying up Vertcoin - perhaps they've done research and feel good about the coin. And whether it's 1 VTC or 20,000 VTC, that buyer is putting money behind their prediction, and is making a serious vote of confidence in our little community.
What might these big buyer "whales" know?
The entire alt coin landscape is ripe for consolidation, right now. Litecoin has surprisingly little outreach and buzz for a coin as old as it is, with a market cap second only to Bitcoin itself. And its community is stagnating - we've picked up about a ninth of their total Reddit subscriber amount, and we're only a month and change old.
The fact that we're an anti-ASIC, multi pool resistant version of Litecoin means we will earn the attention of their investors, miners, and users over time. I've said this before, but it's worth repeating in case you missed it: when consumers are asked if they'd prefer the "ASIC resistant" scrypt coin or the "ASIC vulnerable" scrypt coin, no consumer will want the ASIC vulnerable one. This is like how grocery stores have been getting out of control labeling things "gluten free." The other day I noticed bath soap that was advertised as "gluten free" -- good to know in case VTC's price drops so severely I start eating soap. :)
As silly as it is, however, "gluten free" brings us a feeling of comfort.
And what of the other alts? MaxCoin is tied into the following of Max Keiser, a bombastic television anchor at RT in London - he's been a big believer in crypto since day 1 or day 2, but to base a decentralized currency around any man's name is madness. If he has a heart attack, the coin tanks in value. If he loses his TV show, the coin tanks in value. If he says something repulsive or tweets something stupid while he's drinking with his mates at the pub, the coin tanks in value. I'd sooner buy a BieberCoin than a MaxCoin if such a thing existed. Again, not bashing the man for trying something new, only looking at it as an investor - and cult of personality coins aren't for me.
PandaCoin - everything about it rubs me the wrong way, and when the initial gains have been made by speculators, they will be looking for a safer place to put their money. Vertcoin seems like the perfect place for anyone who wants to believe in a coin for the long term and contribute to making that happen.
Ethereum - so far, I have seen no evidence that Ethereum is a threat to anything. It's not a threat to Bitcoin, and it's not a threat to Vertcoin. So far it has seemed like a very clever Phype game. "Ethereum will do this, Ethereum will do that, oh my!" Let's see some fucking code, then, and not just a dodgy kid putting out YouTube videos about how earth shattering his Ethereum will be... I wouldn't trust that guy with my lunch money. Ideas are a dime a dozen in crypto, execution is key.
Of the alts, Vertcoin is the only one I've seen with such credible developers, the only one I've seen go to 2,296 active subscribers on its subreddit in such a short period of time, get listed on so many major exchanges pretty much right out of the gate, constantly talked about on Twitter, and it's not pre mined so our efforts aren't making some bag holder or "Founder" rich beyond his wildest dreams.
There's a lot of money that will be chasing crypto growth this year, in my opinion. Most big investors and funds will go for the safety of BTC, but those in search of higher growth obviously understand they need to go for a coin that is still in the embryonic stages. For Bitcoin to produce a 10x return for a VC fund or wealthy individual investor, it'd have to rocket up to a $80 billion market cap. That same 10x return in Vertcoin would require a market cap of only $40 million.
Add to the mix not pre-mined, ASIC resistance, and all the organic buzz surrounding Vert -- add all that up and you get a coin that is the ideal speculative play for VCs and investors interested in finding the DHL or UPS to Bitcoin's FedEx. There will be other major players in the crypto space, as per the law of requisite variety. Bitcoin won't be "the only coin" that people use, so the question is which will it be? I don't think it will be Litecoin, for the reasons I gave above. I don't think it will be any of the flash in the pan coins or mere Bitcoin clones.
And for big BTC investors, Vertcoin offers the perfect hedge against eventual mining consolidation and higher fees/lower network security.
And our community is just nicer. I fly Virgin America whenever I can because the staff is noticeably nicer and more responsive to requests - they must actually train their staff that "the customer is always right." Compare this to the indifferent, bitter staff I've encountered on some of the older airlines... no way.
Our community is more proactive and friendly than many of the other coins. We get things done. You can't put a price tag on this attribute, but it leads to faster adoption, less problems as we grow, and more innovation.
The tip bot being down [edit- it's now back up] is the perfect opportunity to practice turning adversity into opportunity. Whenever you want to tip someone, get them to download the client (takes 30 seconds) at vertcoin.org and guide them through creating a new address. Have them publicly post their address so you, and others who come across the thread, can tip.
The more Vertcoin addresses people see on Reddit, as long as it's genuine and not spam, the more curiosity there will be surrounding Vertcoin - and more people will get the client, get some coins, begin tipping.
In fact, every setback this community faces - there will be many - should be converted into positive action, convert that adversity into pure opportunity. Tony Robbins has this thing where instead of telling yourself "why is this happening to me?" ask yourself "why is this happening for me?"
Cheesy, but it absolutely works to keep you proactive rather than reactive. Tipbot's down? Great, that happened FOR us, now we can get others to download the client and we can tip directly to people's addresses - the way decentralized currency is supposed to be! Any tipbot is a risk because it's a huge pot of coins for an attacker to target.
Vertcoin's price is down today? Great, that happened FOR us as well, now anyone here who really believes in this community's future - as I do - can buy more. I see speculators and miners unloading their coins as a natural part of any coin's growth - now the coins are getting into the hands of people who really believe in it, and are planning to spend time promoting, developing, and innovating around Vertcoin.
And there are no bosses in this magical land of Verta. Want to develop a new [feature X] for Vertcoin? Guess what, you've got that job. Go do it. You don't need to seek approval from the HR manager or the CEO or the board.
Want to deal with some spam and clean up the community a bit? Job's all yours.
Want to help draft a press release and send it to members of the media? Congrats, you're now on the publicity team for Vertcoin.
Want to take a couple weeks off from Vertcoin? Feel free to do so, everyone here comes and goes as they please.

Thanks for responding however what does that mean from my point of view that my ticket is assigned to a level 2 support agent? I clearly understand that it's assigned to a level 2 support person as it has been there for a couple days now. What does this offer me as the customer? What exactly are my options at this point? Can you offer more assistance by getting this escalated perhaps to a manager or supervisor at this point?

Thanks for responding however what does that mean from my point of view that my ticket is assigned to a level 2 support agent? I clearly understand that it's assigned to a level 2 support person as it has been there for a couple days now. What does this offer me as the customer? What exactly are my options at this point? Can you offer more assistance by getting this escalated perhaps to a manager or supervisor at this point?
Regards,
Bo

Bo said a day ago Cryptsy Support,
I'm writing this message to you all from a source of deep frustration and exasperation. I really dislike having to be pesky and write a new ticket (at least I get an automated response!) however, (as I've mentioned before) from a customer stand point you've really left me no other options. I have taken the time to add comments on the original ticket (#146571) hoping I would get some type of feedback\resolution for my issue but to no avail. What am I suppose to do as your customer?? Should I post this on Reddit, Twitter and/or BitcoinTalk?? Should I send a message to BigVern directly? I'm really not looking forward to any of the aforementioned thoughts. I am just looking forward to having my withdrawal processed ASAP (I'm a "verified customer" for crying out loud). How long should I have to wait for at least an update on what's going on?! Does this sound or look like good customer support to keep the customer in the dark?
Signing off A very frustrated Cryptsy customer hoping someone with a bit of customer service can help out,
P.S: Why is CLOAK not an option from the Coin Type drop down??
said 13 hours ago Dear Support,
Just checking in to see if I could get an update?
Regards,
Bo Update Cryptsy successfully process my withdrawal today (7/30/2014) Thanks guys!

Bitcoin Classic is possibly a Takeover Attempt by Cryptsy and Marshall Long of FinalHash to dump Worthless Coins on Depositers

Marshall Long CTO of FinalHash and CTO of Cryptsy who still lists Cryptsy on the FinalHash website has been the one of the primary forces pushing for Bitcoin Classic in what would likely result in a fork with two chains due to it's extremely controversial nature of being pushed for activation before SegWit. Since Cryptsy's liabilities are primarily in Bitcoin it is theorized he is likely still working closely with them to come up with a way to resolve their problems. Big Verne has flown to China and is likely working closely with Marshall Long in order to create a hard fork where the coins from the losing chain can be dumped on Cryptsy's users for pennies on the dollar.
The smoking gun here is how he all of a sudden goes from supporting the core roadmap and saying miners nearly unanimously support segwit on Dec 14th to a complete about face and withdraw of his support from the roadmap on Jan 5th do a search for "FinalHash" in those archive links to see the specific posts in question. Shortly after this about face it is revealed that Cryptsy was running a fractional reserve. Cryptsy likely knew about pending legal action back in December and would be working on a strategy to resolve their liabilities. Dumping pre-fork coins on their users is a plausible strategy for resolving their legal liabilities.
The people involved with Bitcoin Classic have close ties to FinalHash and Cryptsy and have been working under repository called "Multicoin-co" here.
You can see details of the Bitcoin Classic involvement in FinalHash lead developer Ahmed Bodiwala's github history who as you can see here has been very active with altcoin development and also has close ties to Cryptsy in addition to having commit access to the bitcoin classic repository along with jtoomim and Marshall Long himself. Marshall Long was also closely involved with the mintsy.co scam. Marshall long has been involved in countless other scams such as GAW miners.
While it is just a theory that Marshall Long is pushing for a hard fork to dump the losing chain's coins on Cryptsy users it does seem like a realistic possibility given the evidence. Even if there is another reason for this hard fork push do you really want someone involved with all these scams to be in charge of bitcoin protocol development?

Bizarre: Crypto Exchange Cryptsy Makes Deal With Hackers to Return STOLEN 13,000 BTC, Pays 13% Fee To the Culprit

http://www.bitcoinfuturesguide.com/bitcoin-blog/cryptsy-makes-deal-with-hackers-to-return-stolen-13000-btc-pays-13-fee-to-the-culprit
here's an image of it:
http://www.bitcoinfuturesguide.com/uploads/6/4/6/5/64656757/5208407_orig.png
A PDF has been posted of a contract that Big Vern (Paul Vernon) signed, in Florida, for getting the 13,000 lost coins that were reported hacked. The deal is to pay 1750 BTC for that, with contingencies to get the lost LTC and other litecoins.
Why anybody would trust trading on that site after all that has happened, I don't know. Since last year we have been warning of issues from Cryptsy.

Cryptsy troolbox community stands behind UNB unbreakable and its Dev Jim Blasko, the HONEST coin

As of late many of us that frequent the Cryptsy trollbox have grown tired of the constantly circulating scams and the profitable, but hopeless pump and dumps..
Now many uf us have come together in support of something different, UNB unbreakablecoin. An honest coin with a very hard working, extremely active developer.
Unbreakable has already had many things on its side and many people are just starting to take notice..
You can see all sorts of great things at jims websight http://www.unbreakablecoin.com/ and it also has its own dedicated auctions sight https://unbreakablecoinauctions.com/...
Albeit https://unbreakablecoinauctions.com/ has been having some technical difficultys due to its increased volume, whitch was originally thought to be a DDOS attack, but after further investigation turned out to be over 2 million new hits... Jim is working on a dedicated UNB server as I type..
Recently at the Miami Bitcoin Conference, the top dog of Cryptsy BigVern had nothing but good words to say about UNB and Jim during his presentation which I think has had a lot to do with the recent activity..
In the last few days the price of UNB has gone up and is holding steady around 3 to 4 times its price before. This has caused quite a stir in the mining community as it became more profitable to mine than Bitcoin and many large pools pointed at it. It's price has survived the miners dumps due to a blast in hashrate at a low difficulty. Things have since leveled out quite a bit..
Anyway im no expert and cant really answer the super technical questions, but Jim sure can!!!
Thats right!! Call him if you want!! He loves it!!
1-406-CALLUNB during business hours Mon-Fri Pacific Time 9am – 5pm..
Oh, and i almost forgot to mention the loaded crypto trading cards Jim is about to release, allstarcrypto trading cards..
http://www.unbreakablecoin.com/spend-unb/allstar-crypto/ coming soon..
Yeah im shilling it because i believe in it, no im not paid or in any way related to Unbreakable products llc.
oh yeah something about it being the only crypto to be a licenced company, suited and ready for regulation..
Its all but impossible for me to state everything great about UNB.. Alas I'm but a noob...
Find out more for yourself, its a great thing!!!
LONG LIVE UNB!!
